How to Set up a Health Education Project

  1. Plan it in! A successful health education project requires careful planning so it is important to ensure that adequate time is given to this aspect of the work.
  2. Build some skills first! For young people to feel comfortable working with other people some skills, in particular communication skills, will be vital. It is important before beginning the project that some time is spent on developing the skills needed to undertake the tasks.
  3. Allow time for reflection! Once the project is underway, opportunities need to be created for young people to feed back on how the work is progressing. Providing them with a framework in which this reflection and evaluation can take place will be useful. It will help to maintain the interest of the young people, allow them to discuss any changes that may be required and evaluate the learning experience for themselves.
