How
does the school benefit from joining the scheme?
The school gets valuable
support from the entire school community. Closer working
relationships with parents and external partners. Recognition
of its achievements. Better developed staff by identification
of staff training needs. A broader, balanced curriculum.

Who
can join the task group?

All
members/agencies of the wider school community. Parents,
pupils, staff, governors, caretaker, school crossing patrol,
smsas, cook, police, youth service, Safe Routes to School
worker, Drug advisors, dental hygienists, dietitians, school
health advisors, any outside agency the school works with.

Are
parents invited to join the task group?
Definitely - the
parents are a valuable resource.

If
parents have any ideas can they bring them to the task group?
Any ideas / suggestions
can be brought to the task group meeting or if unable to
attend leave a message with the PSHE Co-ordinator or other
member of staff in school.

Once
the school have joined the Healthy School Scheme is it the
sole responsibility of the PSHE Co-ordinator?
No
- The PSHE co-ordinator may lead the task group but the
scheme involves the whole school community and so it is
the responsibility of all
to get behind the scheme.

What
level of support can the school expect from the Healthy
School team?
The Healthy School
team works closely with schools, making sure they get all
the support they need to plan and set targets. The team
will attend the 1st and 2nd Task group meetings and after
that will be available to offer support, guidance, training
opportunities, give regular updates of new resources available
and network opportunities to share good practice with other
schools.

Is
there an award for completing a theme?
In the future the
Healthy School team are hoping to hold an annual celebratory
event. Schools who have completed a theme will be invited
along to share the school's successes with their colleagues
and peers.

Are
all schools in Barnsley part of the Healthy School Scheme?
No - but it is anticipated that by 2006 the majority of schools in Barnsley will have joined the Healthy Schools Scheme.

Will
the school need to start afresh when joining the scheme?
Through the audit
,areas for development and strengths of the school will
be highlighted. The Healthy School team do not expect the
schools to start at the very beginning.

Can
any work already in progress in school be considered?
Yes.
Good practice already in place can be included in meeting
the criteria of a particular theme. The scheme is an ongoing
process - developing good, innovative practice even further.
