1. The policy is in line with DfES guidance 0116/2000 (Sex and Relationship Education Guidance) as opposed to Circular 5/94

 

     

2. There is a named member of staff with overall responsibility for SRE

 

     

3. A Governor also has designated responsibility for SRE

 

     

4. The school has a planned SRE programme that:

  • Is part of the school's PSHE and Citizenship programme and Science curriculum (Curriculum 2000)
  • Assesses Pupil's needs including pupil evaluation
  • Covers foundation (Primary only) and all key stages
  • Is differentiated to meet pupil's age, ability, gender and maturity
  • Includes specific learning outcomes
  • Is monitored and reviewed and assessed
  • Is in line with Teenage Pregnancy Strategy objectives
  • Pupils learn about the emotional and physical changes of puberty before onset (primary)
  • Sex Education is taught in primary school
  • Contraception, STIs (including HIV) and gender issues are taught in secondary schools (secondary)
  • Pupils are advised where they can access confidential advice (secondary)
