HEALTHY SCHOOL SCHEME TEAM

The
Barnsley Healthy School Scheme offers advice
and support to schools to develop a whole school community
approach to health improvement, reducing health inequalities,
raising educational attainment and promoting social inclusion.
It is a partnership between NHS Barnsley and the Local Education
Authority and received National Accreditation in 2001.The
team consists of a Healthy Schools Coordinator, a Sex and
Relationship Education Consultant, Healthy School Development
Worker, Health Promotion Worker, Smoke Stop Coordinator
for Young People, PSHE Consultant Teacher and an Administration
Officer.

Sue
Copeland - Healthy
Schools Scheme Coordinator
Sue has a
background in General Nursing and more recently School Nursing,
having worked in both mainstream and Special Schools. Sue
now coordinates the Barnsley Healthy School Scheme. Her
role involves working on a multi-agency level and linking
into the strategic partnerships across Barnsley.

Bernadette Lally
- Healthy School Development
Worker
Bernadette's
background is in health and since 2003 her involvement has
been in School Health. Her role is to support schools to
develop, achieve, embed and sustain Healthy Schools Status.
She also leads on Emotional Health & Well Being, again
to support schools to develop, achieve, embed abd sustain
the criteria within this strand of the Healthy School agenda.
Examples of such support may incude addressing training
needs to meet the criteria or supporting school to network
with the wider school community to address the needs of
their school.

Colette
Hallas - Sex
and Relationship Education Consultant
Colette
started her post as SRE Consultant within the Healthy School
Team at the beginning of July 2007. Her role is to
support schools to develop sex and relationship education
and school based health servies, and link with agencies
that support schools to achieve the Healthy School Standard.
She will be able to provide information and help on organisation
and delivery of SRE, policy and programme development, consultation
with pupils, parents and school staff, resources, classroom
teaching and assessment strategies and team teaching.
She can train teams of staff in individual schools but will
also be developing and delivering borough wide SRE training.

Joanne
Birkett - Administration
Officer/Website Administrator
Joanne has
a background of working in an office environment and has
worked for the NHS for 8 years. Joanne has been in post
since April 2003 and her role within Public Health is to
provide administrative support to the Healthy School Team
and website administration.

Jeff Platts
- Smoke Free Lead for Children and Young People
Jeff started
within the Healthy School team in March 2009 and his role
is to lead and develop a multi-agency, evidence based tobacco
control programme to help young people be smoke free. He
will assist schools to implement a "whole school approach"
to tobacco control and ensure that the project develops
closely with other tobacco control initiatives and contributes
to the overall programme to reduce smoking related inequalities
in health. Jeff has a background in Youth and Community
work and has worked in Barnsley for a number of years in
a variety of roles.
