The Barnsley Healthy School Scheme offers advice and support to schools to develop a whole school community approach to health improvement, reducing health inequalities, raising educational attainment and promoting social inclusion. It is a partnership between the Primary Care Trust and the Local Education Authority and received National accreditation in 2001.The team consists of a Healthy Schools Coordinator, a Sex and Relationship Education Consultant and an Administration Assistant

Sue Copeland - Healthy Schools Scheme Coordinator

Sue has a background in General Nursing and more recently School Nursing, having worked in both mainstream and Special Schools. Sue now coordinates the Barnsley Healthy School Scheme. Her role involves working on a multi-agency level and linking into the strategic partnerships across Barnsley.

Colette Hallas - Sex and Relationship Education Consultant

Colette started her post as SRE Consultant within the Healthy School Team at the beginning of July 2007.  Her role is to support schools to develop sex and relationship education and school based health servies, and link with agencies that support schools to achieve the Healthy School Standard.  She will be able to provide information and help on organisation and delivery of SRE, policy and programme development, consultation with pupils, parents and school staff, resources, classroom teaching and assessment strategies and team teaching.  She can train teams of staff in individual schools but will also be developing and delivering borough wide SRE training.

Joanne Birkett - Administration Assistant/Website Administrator

Joanne has a background of working in an office environment and has worked for the NHS for seven years. Joanne has been in post since April 2003 and her role within Public Health is to provide support to the Healthy Schools Team and website administration.
